Newspaper online readership grew by 12.2 percent in the second quarter of 2008 as compared with a year earlier, with an average 66.4 million unique visitors getting newspaper content via the internet each month, according to a report by the Newspaper Association of America. More than 40 percent of all Internet users consulted a newspaper site during the period.
Other signs that the shift to digital consumption of media continues at a rapid pace: Watching video on the Internet is no longer a novelty, says Nielsen. Nearly 119 million people viewed 7.5 billion video streams in May. Meanwhile, new research from Integrated Media Measurement Inc. indicates up to 20 percent of TV viewing occurs online. Both the IMMI data and the Nielsen study suggest women are more prone to watch television episodes online.
